Stride and Hipchat Cloud
We will be upgrading all Hipchat Cloud teams to Stride. Hipchat Cloud will continue to work as it does today until your team upgrades to Stride. After upgrading, Hipchat Cloud will remain in 'read-only' mode so that you can reference your API configuration in Hipchat Cloud and receive integration notifications for those apps that are not yet in Stride.
For now, Hipchat Cloud will continue to be supported, but eventually we will encourage all Hipchat Cloud customers to upgrade to Stride.
Hipchat Cloud will no longer be accepting new groups starting on September 7, 2017.
However, Hipchat Cloud will continue to work as it does today until you upgrade to Stride. Existing customers will still be able to add new teammates, downgrade, or upgrade their Hipchat Cloud instance.
After upgrading, Hipchat Cloud will remain in 'read-only' mode to reference the API configuration in Hipchat Cloud and receive notifications for those apps that are not yet in Stride. Our goal is to upgrade customers from Hipchat Cloud to Stride as soon as possible.
Hipchat Cloud was the first real enterprise messaging platform—it made the biggest transformation in how we work that our generation has ever seen. It created a completely new product category called "Group Chat."
Stride is a brand new product—a complete team communication solution built for the future to meet teams' ever-evolving needs in the workplace. It not only has group messaging, but also native voice and video conferencing, and built-in collaboration tools. Stride is reliable, robust, and intelligent—all to help you work better with your team.
Note that Stride is a part of Atlassian Cloud:
All Stride instances are part of Atlassian Cloud, giving you the ability to combine billing & licensing with other Cloud products on the same Atlassian Cloud.
Stride gives you the tools to go beyond messaging with reliable communication tools like Meetings (video and voice conferencing across desktop and mobile) and collaboration tools like Actions and Decisions, which let you isolate important tasks and decisions from your chat thread so they can easily be found and acted on.
If you'd like to see all that Stride has to offer, check out our How It Works page. Also check out all the things Hipchatters will love in Stride.
Stride has many of the features you loved in Hipchat Cloud and much more. Check out our How It Works page for an in depth look at Stride's features.
We've added a lot of features and made improvements in Stride that we think make it a great experience, but we've learned from other Hipchat users that there are certain features that are missed. If any of these features are critical to your team, follow along on the progress of each:
- Guest access
- Admin controls and compliance settings:
- Keep notification popups visible until dismissed on Windows and Linux
- Integrations with some Atlassian server products (The Jira Server app does exist! There are two versions: Jira Server notifications for Stride and a more comprehensive, paid app.)
- Multi-account (Stride currently has multi-site ability. Sign up for multiple Stride teams with the same email address, and toggle between them in the app.)
- User management API
- Dark mode
Many Hipchat apps and bots are being optimized for Stride, but you may find that some of the ones you used in Hipchat Cloud are not yet available in Stride. Don't worry though, we'll continue to ship new ones and keep you in-the-know on what we're releasing.
All Atlassian Cloud products work with Stride, as well as popular 3rd party applications like Giphy and GitHub.
Check out our Marketplace to see all the apps and bots available in Stride.
If your team had private rooms within Hipchat Cloud, they will now find those rooms manageable in Stride by anyone who has already been invited into the room in Hipchat. This means that any room member can change the name, topic, and invite new users to the room.
Private rooms you had in Hipchat will remain private in Stride. They will not show up in your Directory, are not searchabkle, and cannot be joined without being invited.
Unfortunately, Stride and Hipchat are two separate products that do not communicate with each other.
When you upgrade to Stride, we will bring all of your users, rooms and messages from Hipchat over to Stride for you.
Hipchat will continue to work as it does today until your team upgrades to Stride. For teams that require specific apps as a part of their workflow, Hipchat will remain in 'read-only' mode after upgrading so that you can reference your app configuration in Hipchat and receive notifications for those apps that are not yet in Stride.
There is no integration between Hipchat Cloud and Stride.
After you've upgraded to Stride, you can add a new Jira or Confluence instance to your Atlassian Cloud site.
If you already have a Jira or Clonfluence Cloud instance, you can add a brand new Stride instance to your Atlassian Cloud site.
If you want to connect an existing Jira or Confluence Cloud instance and an upgraded Stride instance, please contact our support team.
